Thriving With Less Sleep

A lack of sleep can be detrimental to say the least, but is it possible to thrive without enough shut eye? Here are some tips to help you bounce back and maybe even bounce forward after days when you didn't get as many hours as you'd like.

1. Decrease the importance you place on sleep.

Most people think that sleep rules all facets of their life, but it's only one factor among many. What you eat, how much you exercise, support from others, stress level, these are all impacting your ability to thrive. The more factors on your side, the better ability you will have to kick butt and take names.

2. Realize you are still in control of how you respond if you didn't sleep well.

You may feel like a zombie, but you are not a robot being controlled from outer space. You choose how you respond to life regardless if you are tired or not. Having a sense of responsibility and even thinking ahead of how you would like to bounce back from fatigue can be a helpful approach.

3. Use larger goals to motivate your current impulses.

Being tired sucks, but override your sleepiness with what matters most. Remind yourself of what you're working towards or what you are trying to achieve. If you can tap into an emotional state that drives or motivates you, often it can help put things in perspective and keep you on the path to success.
